Amethyst is a Gem in Diablo 4. Amethyst  can be crafted using Chipped Amethyst and can only be applied to Socketed Equipment. Depending on the type of equipment used, Amethyst grants different bonuses. The Jeweler can unsocket your Gems from your gear without damaging them, so you can use them for different gear combinations. In addition to upgrading Armor and Weapons at The Blacksmith, you can also enhance the bonus Resistances and extra Stats of your Rings and Amulets with the Jeweler's help.

How to upgrade Amethyst in Diablo 4

Upgrading Amethyst to a higher tier requires an investment of 3 Gems and Gold, but it also increases the effectiveness of the Gem when socketed into a piece of gear.

Amethyst requires 3 Chipped Amethyst and 12,500 Gold to be crafted. Can be upgraded to Flawless Amethyst.

    • It increases "shadow damage over time"... when you check your stats, you will not have increased dot damage, but instead you get a "shadiw damage over time" buff in your offensive stats

        It's not clear if this adds a new source of Damage Over Time or just boosts already existent sources of damage over time.
