Armor in Diablo 4 consists of five types pieces: Helm, Chest, Gloves, Pants and Boots. Each piece of armor can be equipped on their respective equipment slot. Armor provides defense, which decreases the incoming damage from Enemies, and they also provide with different fixed and random modifiers that affect the player stats.
Armor can be obtained as Enemy or Boss drops, inside chests/crates that the player can open around the world and dungeons, they can be purchased from Merchants, and can be Crafted by using various Crafting Materials.
Rarities
As you journey through Diablo 4, you'll encounter items with varying degrees of rarity, including Common, Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique. Typically, these items are influenced by your character's level progression, with Common and Magic items dropping less frequently than rare and Legendary as you level up. Unique items, on the other hand, are extremely rare and are considered to be some of the best items in the game that you may never even find in a single season.
Common items lack additional affixes, while Magic items only have one. Rare items begin with three affixes, and Legendary items can have four. It's important to note that while lower rarity items can be traded, Legendary and Unique items are bound to your account and cannot be traded.
If you're looking to add a Legendary Aspect to your item, it must have a Rare or Legendary rarity. When you imprint a Rare item, it upgrades to a Legendary rarity and becomes bound to your account. Legendary items that you pick up as loot always have a Legendary Aspect attached to them. Unique items, as the name implies, are unique in that they possess special effects that cannot be altered or overwritten.
Types of Rarities
- Common: Don't have additional affixes modifier
- Magic: They provide 1 additional affix modifier
- Rare: They provide 3 extra affixes modifiers
- Legendary: They provide 4 affixes modifiers
- Unique: Have special effects that cannot be modified or overwritten.
Enchanting
Enchanting is a powerful tool that lets you change unwanted affixes on your gear in exchange for a chance at better stats. By rerolling a specific affix, you can improve a sub-par Legendary item and turn it into a great piece of gear. However, keep in mind that once you enchant a specific stat, the item becomes account bound, and you can only attempt to reroll that same stat in the future.
It's important to note that some affixes cannot co-exist on the same item, so learning which stats can roll together is essential to avoid wasting your materials. During the enchanting process, you are presented with two new stats to choose from, and you can opt to keep the current affix if you're not satisfied with the new options. However, keep in mind that the cost still applies, and the affix is considered enchanted.
To enchant rare items, you'll need Veiled Crystals, which you can obtain by salvaging other rare items. Legendary items, on the other hand, require Fiend Rose. So make sure to gather enough materials and gold to take full advantage of the enchanting system.
Item Powers or Affixes
The power of your equipment determines the range of stats that can appear on your gear. As your character level increases, so too does the item power on the gear that you loot or receive from quests. The affixes on your gear have ranges that also increase as item power increases. For example, a Chest with 290 item power may roll between 7-12 for a Strength affix, whereas that same Chest at 443 item power could roll between 13-18. If you're looking to increase the item power of your gear, fear not, as the Blacksmith is here to help.
By upgrading a piece of gear, you can raise its item power by 5 per upgrade. Low-level rares can be upgraded up to 3 times, which means you can add up to 15 item power to them. Legendary items, on the other hand, can be upgraded up to 5 times, giving you the potential to add 25 item power. With every increase in item power, you can expect to see an increase in your gear's base stats, such as armor for armor pieces and damage for weapons, as well as affix ranges and implicit stats. One thing to note is that the values of Legendary Aspects appear to be unaffected by increasing an item's power via upgrading.
Customizing Your Appearance:
In Diablo 4, you'll accumulate a variety of Armor and Weapons with different stats and abilities. However, you may find that some of the items you come across have a more appealing appearance than others. Fortunately, there's a solution for those who care more about looking cool than maximizing their stats.
By salvaging gear, you can permanently store its appearance in your Wardrobe. This allows you to use it to transmog your new gear so that it has the same appearance. Keep in mind, transmogging gear only changes the physical appearance of your equipment and does not affect its stats or powers. This may seem like a small detail, but it's an important one for those who don't want to give up their favorite-looking weapon or armor set, even if they've outgrown its usefulness.
Sacred and Ancestral Items
Once players reach level 50, and enter World Tier III Nightmare difficulty, a new quality of items may drop called Sacred Items. These items have increased roll affixes. They start dropping during this difficulty only, and can be recognized by the golden glow in the upper-section of the icon. Their level starts at level 50.
On the other hand, once players reach level 70, and at World Tier IV Torment difficulty, Ancestral Items will start dropping. These items start dropping during this difficulty, and can be recognized by an orange glow in the upper section of the icon. Their base level starts at level 70. The roll affixes of these items is even higher of Sacred Items.
All Armor in Diablo 4
Unique Armor are the pinnacle of Armor in Diablo 4, possessing distinctive and powerful traits that can drastically change your character Build. Although they are significantly rarer and more difficult to obtain than legendary items, Unique Armor pieces have the potential to become Best-in-Slot gear thanks to their special effects, Affixes, and unique appearance. Additionally, each unique item has its own background flavor text, adding to its individuality and Lore.
