Shrines in Diablo 4 are statues that glow with a white light that provides a temporary buff to players. Although they are randomly generated around Sanctuary, theses Shrines can be found all across but can be more commonly found in Dungeons. Players won't get to pick the buff you get from the shrine, however you will see what type of buff it offers by looking at the icon above the Shrine.
How Shrines works
Shrines are powerful tools that can provide players with temporary beneficial effects lasting for 30 seconds, including a movement speed boost. Unlike previous games in the franchise, players in a group must click on each Shrine individually to receive the buff, which can be challenging in fast-paced combat situations.
Each Shrine offers unique effects that can be advantageous in specific scenarios, so it's essential to learn how to use them to your advantage. With strategic use of Shrines, you can gain the upper hand in battles and achieve victory in the toughest of situations.
Cursed Shrines
In dungeons, some Shrines have a chance of being Cursed though you wont be affected by it, requiring the player to first cleanse them in order to receive their benefits. This additional challenge involves clearing waves of monsters before the timer runs out before you can activate the Shrine.
If you succeed, you will receive a greater radiant chest containing valuable loot. If the timer runs out before you kill them all, then you will only get the buff and a radiant chest.
Faded Plaques
These are also known as Emote Shrines, where players can also gain buffs from statues with readable plaques on them. These statues are scattered across Sanctuary with a white circle in front of them. When interacting with it, there will be a riddle to which you have to solve using an emote. After using the right emote, you will gain the buff.
You will first need to complete the Wayward Quest in Act I to unlock Faded Plaques, the faded plaques will spawn across Sanctuary upon completion.
