Dungeon Affixes in Diablo 4 refer to modifiers that affect dungeons or tiers. These are generated modifiers that can be applied to the level itself, adding extra challenge and variety to the gameplay. From adding extra traps or obstacles, or introducing environmental hazards. These affixes can also affect the behavior of Enemies, such as making them more aggressive or increasing their numbers.

How Do Dungeon Affixes Work?

Dungeon Affixes are modifiers added to Nightmare Dungeons. This is a World Tier 3 & 4 Exclusive that makes grinding in Dungeons more difficult but will also yield more rewards. It is also noted that Legendary and Unique farming is a common practice due to the number of Elites housed within Dungeons. These affixes work to modify the behaviors of enemies or sometimes, their numbers will increase. Positive affixes aim to modify your attacks, while negative ones will make your enemies stronger.

There are 2 types of Dungeon Affix:

  • Positive
  • Negative

Regular and Nightmare Dungeons Diablo 4

Both the Regular Dungeons and Nightmare Dungeons will have the same layout, same location, and same objectives. The only difference between the two is the difficulty of the Dungeons and the enemies within.

In Nightmare Dungeons, you will have a lot more Elites housed within, and they are far stronger than regular mobs. Affixes are also added that will modify the gameplay and a minimum of 2 will negatively impact your character.

How many affixes are in Nightmare Dungeons?

Each of the Nightmare Dungeons has its affixes and multiple Elites, these numbers can potentially go up, as the Tier level goes higher. The tier of a Nightmare Dungeon is dictated by a Nightmare Sigil. This will determine the difficulty, the number of affixes, and the Elites population inside the Dungeon.

  • Tier 1-10: 3 Affixes (1 positive, 2 negative)
  • Tier 11-20: 4 Affixes (1 positive, 3 negative)
  • Tier 21-100:  5 Affixes (1 positive, 4 negative)

The Tier of the Dungeon will also affect the number of revives that a player can have before failing the Dungeon. From Tier 1-20, you may do 12 revives but Tier 21-100 will only allow 4 revives.

What are Nightmare Sigils?

Nightmare Sigil is what is used to dictate what Tier (1-100) a Nightmare Dungeon will be. This will determine the difficulty of a dungeon, the number of affixes, and the number of Elite enemies. Nightmare Sigils can be found randomly through the randomized loot system, in which all item drops are randomly generated.

To use a sigil, simply travel to the designated dungeon, open your Inventory tab, and switch to Consumables. Activating the sigil will turn the Dungeon into its Nightmare mode. Visit the Nightmare Sigils guide for more in-depth information.
