Fields of Ruin is a Side Quest in Diablo 4. Fields of Ruin can be found at The Downs, Scosglen. Phelan from the What Ails Thee has an additional favor to ask and asks players to help with placing the Wardstones. Side Quests are optional missions that players can complete in order to obtain different rewards. Players are usually rewarded XP, and Gold depending on your level. Completing Side Quests in a specific region will also add to the Region Renown. Side Quests can be acquired by encountering various events or interacting with different NPCs.
Help Farmer Phelan protect Blycroft from the khazra.

Fields of Ruin Walkthrough
- Speak with Phelan in the Downs.
This quest is best activated while progressing through the What Ails Thee Side Quest. Players will need to speak with Phelan in the Downs. He will be located in Blycroft.
Speak with Phelan to reveal your dialogue options. Choose: "What is happening here" to activate the quest. This will allow you to track the quest and reveal your first objective. You will need to pick up the Druid Warstones. The Druid Wardstones are just to the right by the cabin.
Interact with them to pick them up. Your objective will then update.
- Place the Wardstones: 0/3
The next areas will be marked on your map. Go towards the encircled blue areas. There will be three marked areas to place the Wardstones. You may need to clear some Blood clan Enemies or shake them off enough to place your Wardstone. There will be an outline of the Wardstone in each area that you can interact with. Placing a Wardstone will take a few moments so make sure the area is cleared. Move on to each area while clearing the Blood Clan enemies. The one towards the south will require you to get around the field's fencing. It will be right on the outside corner of the fence.
Clearing the Blood Clan will also get you a chance to begin a new quest if you manage to pick up A History of Scosglen book. This will begin Braega's Chronicles.
- Speak to Phelan
Finish placing the Wardstones to update the quest. When you are done, speak to Phelan again and tell him that you have placed the wardstones.
You will then need to travel to the Unhallowed Pits.
- Travel to the Unhallowed Pits
Once you arrive you will have two objectives in this location.
- Slay Blood Clan Khazra to draw out Blackhorn.
- Slay Blackhorn and acquire his head.
A gauge will appear to indicate how many of the Blood Clan you need to stay and what your progress is before Blackhorn will appear. Once you have cleared enough Blood Clan Enemies, you will need to clear Blackhorn to gain his head as a drop. Once he is cleared, pick up the head of Blackhorn. Once you have the head, you can exit the area.
- Return to Phelan
Finally, you can return to Phelan at Blycroft. Speak to him to complete the quest.
