Before players can start crafting with salvaged materials, they need to unlock The Blacksmith at level 10 by completing a Quest.
Diablo 4 Salvaged Materials Quality
The quality of the item determines the value and rarity of the salvaged materials obtained. Salvaged Materials come in three tiers: Shimmering Essence and Luminous Essence (obtained from Magic items), Radiant Essence and Lambent Essence (obtained from Rare items), and Glittering Essence and Resplendent Essence (obtained from Legendary/Set items).
Players can use salvaged materials to upgrade and enhance their gear, such as rerolling affixes on items and upgrading Legendary items.

Salvaging Mechanics in Diablo 4
Players can easily obtain salvaged materials by using various Blacksmiths situated in towns across Sanctuary. Salvaging unwanted items is effortless with a button that allows players to salvage all items except for Uniques, Legendaries, or altered items. Blizzard has also added the option for players to mark items as Junk, making it easy to salvage any items without restrictions.
Salvaging gear and nightmare sigils yields valuable crafting materials used in various recipes, such as Legendary item upgrades, rerolling Affixes on items, and more.
Items salvaged automatically get their transmog added to players' lists. Moreover, if gems are socketed into items, they will be added to players' inventory after salvaging said items.
Only Magical items or higher are salvageable.
