How to Unlock Higher Tiers of The Pit in Diablo 4

Players can unlock higher tiers of The Pit by rising up to the challenge of defeating the boss before the 15-minute timer expires. The player will unlock the next tier of The Pit each time they complete a run. Players can also skip a tier and speed up their grind up the ladder by completing a tier quickly. The remaining time when a run is completed determines the number of tiers that are unlocked:

  • 1 Tier = Up to 4 minutes remaining on the timer
  • 2 Tiers = 4-6 minutes remaining on the timer
  • 3 Tiers = 6 or more minutes remaining on the timer

The unlocked tiers for The Pit of Artificers are shared across all characters in the same account and will last for the current season. At the end of the season, the progress will be transferred over to the Eternal Realm.

Diablo 4: The Pit of Artificers Strategy

Navigating The Pit of Artificers

The Pit of Artificers is a dungeon with a randomly generated layout and enemy monsters. This means that no two runs will be the same for any player as they will be changed completely. However, the dungeon will always consist of two floors which are connected by a portal. The progression inside the portal is determined by the number of slain enemies, elite enemies also give a big chunk of progression here, but this doesn't mean that you should skip on the regular mobs.

When you are exploring The Pit of Artificers, you want to gather enough enemies that you can eliminate using a quick combo. You can also look out for Shrines that randomly appear and utilize them to your advantage. Enemies at the Pit start at Level 100 and every unlocked tier increases the enemy level by 1. With 200 Tiers to unlock, enemies can grow stronger up to level 300 inside the Pit, which increases their power and Health Points.

Death Penalty

Dying inside The Pit of Artificers is detrimental to your progress. There's a 15-minute timer that's constantly running, and dying inside the Pit will take precious time from you. See the following timer values below:

  • First Death - 30 seconds
  • Second Death - 60 seconds
  • Third Death and thereafter - 90 seconds

If you find that the higher levels of the Pit are difficult for your build, you can farm Masterworking materials that you can use to upgrade your materials up to Rank 4. These will help you get better gear and increase your character's power level to prepare you for the upcoming tiers. It is better to take your time upgrading your gear than to waste time trying to clear a level that isn't suited for your power level.

Final Tip: Optimize your build and figure out your pace. It is important that you can continuously slay enemies without taking too much damage. This allows you to fill up the progress bar without risking death and can give you a higher chance of completing a run. You can also check out our Diablo 4 Builds for any End Game playstyle.
