Seasons in Diablo 4 is an optional game mode that lasts for a couple of months and encourages the players to start a new character to enjoy and participate in Seasonal Events, Features, and Mechanics. Each Season can bring new Weapons, Armor, Accesories, Items, Enemies, Event Materials, and more, providing a fresh experience and the opportunity to try new strategies. Seasons also make for a fairer play, as all players participating have to start from the start. Read more about the Season Guides here.

Players participating in a Season will only be able to play and interact with other players participating in the same Season. Players won't be able to trade or receive help from characters outside the Season. Once the season ends, the character will be available to play in the Eternal Realm and a new character will have to be created in order to play the new season.

This page will be updated as new information about each Season in Diablo 4 is released.

Diablo 4 Season 4: Season of the Loot Reborn (Upcoming)

Loot Reborn is not like the others. Seasons in Diablo 4 usually feature a new questline, time-limited rewards, and game mechanics- all of which will be available for a limited time. Loot Reborn will take on a new theme focusing on overhauling core game systems, itemization, and many end-game changes. Unlike the other seasons in Diablo 4, Loot Reborn will persist beyond the upcoming Season and Eternal Realms.

After the success of PTR (Public Test Realm), the changes are now set to take effect on the release day of Season 4: Loot Reborn. The season will bring about itemization changes, new systems overhaul, Tempering and Masterworking features, and the introduction of new bosses and enemies. World Tiers and Helltide events are also going to undergo changes that will reshape the Season Endgame mechanics of Diablo 4. Lastly, players will team up with the Iron Wolves- a group of seasoned mercenaries to vanquish evil in the Sanctuary.

Diablo 4: Loot Reborn General Item Updates

  • Item drops are now simplified and are made more rewarding
  • Drops have been reduced in number but these items now possess affixes that are more effective
  • Affixes have been reduced (3 on Legendary, 2 on Rare Items)
  • Blacksmith's required materials to perform services have been reduced
  • Forgotten Souls can now be earned from Whisper Bounties, a rare drop from ALL Elites
  • Some Uniques now have a chance to drop at Woried Tier 1 and 2, while the rest becomes available at World Tier 3
  • Sacred Items drop at World Tier 3, while Ancestral Items drop at World Tier 4
  • Uber Uniques will start appearing when killing Level 55 Monsters (at max Item Power level)

Season of Loot Reborn primarily focuses on reshaping the way itemization works in Diablo 4. One of the changes that it will bring about is the instance of item drops have been reduced while making them individually more powerful. This means fewer items to sort through and you can get to the task at hand of slaying monsters which results in fewer trips back to town. To compensate for the reduced frequency and affixes, Materials gained from Salvaging and Crafting have been adjusted to match these changes.

Aside from these item changes, the Blacksmith will also undergo some changes to match the item density. The Gold cost to re-roll items when Enchanting now has a ceiling limit, and the required materials to perform services at the Blacksmith have now been reduced.

Uniques, Uber Uniques, Sacred, and Ancestral Item Drops in Diablo 4

The active World Tier now has a direct effect on the rarity of items earned. Sacred Items begin to drop at World Tier 3, while only Ancestral Items will drop at World Tier 4. Legendary Item drops from Level 95 enemies will still come with a lock-in value of 925 Item Power.

Uniques have a different system for drops. Some Uniques are dropped at World Tier 1 and 2, while the rest are dropped at World Tier 3. Uber Uniques on the other hand are chance drops from killing monsters that are Level 55 at MAX Item Power level.

Season 4 Codex of Power Updates in Diablo 4

Extracting Aspects from Legendary items now transfers them to your Codex of Power for indefinite use. Instead of occupying space in your inventory, the Codex of Power now functions as a library storing your most powerful extracted Aspect versions, available for unlimited usage.

loot reborn season 4 diablo 4 wiki guide 4

The Codex of Power showcases all available Aspects, allowing you to dedicate more time to pursuing the highest Aspect rolls attainable. Upon extracting the Aspect with the maximum potential value, a distinct border indicates its completion. Within the Codex of Power, Aspects can now be marked as favorites, and a tooltip will indicate whether you already own a particular Aspect while browsing. It's important to note that any progress in the Seasonal Realm will be reset upon the end of the Season, and acquired affixes will be saved in the Eternal Realm. Should you possess the same Aspect in the Eternal Realm, the Codex of Power will retain the Aspect with the higher value.

Season 4 Loot Reborn: New Upgrades in Diablo 4

Tempering in Diablo 4

  • This new system will allow you to add affixes to your items at the Blacksmith through a new reusable item that can drop from most content in-game, called Temper Manuals!
  • These are categorized like the Codex of Power (eg: Resource, Mobility, etc)
    • Once gained, you retain these for unlimited use!
  • Each manual contains a handful of affixes; you are able to attach one at a time.
  • Affixes can be rerolled up to the item’s Temper Reroll limit.
  • Ancestral items can have two Tempered affixes from different categories.

Tempering is a new service that can be acquired from Blacksmiths all over Sanctuary. This allows affixes to be added to your chosen Item by learning Crafting Manuals. These items are found as a regular drop throughout the campaign, and once learned, they can be used indefinitely (like the improved Codex of Power). Each of the Crafting Manuals will contain a select number of affixes and will correspond to six different categories: Weapons, Offensive, Defensive, Mobility, Utility, and Resource.

loot reborn season 4 diablo 4 wiki guide 6

NOTE: Ancestral Items can have 2 Tempered Affixes from different categories. Tempering requires specific materials and a gold fee to complete the service.

Masterworking in Diablo 4

  • A late-game crafting system to upgrade items, using materials gathered from The Pit of Artificers.
  • Improves the value of your current affixes.
    • There are 12 upgrade ranks.
    • Every 4 ranks, a single affix is massively upgraded.
    • Other ranks slightly increase the value of all affixes.

Masterworking is one of the newest crafting system that will upgrade the strength of ALL AFFIXES on Weapons. Each time you upgrade a weapon at every 4th tier, one of the equipped affixes will turn Blue signifying a massive upgrade. If that same affix receives another upgrade, it will turn Yellow, then, in rare cases, an Orange if improved for the third time.

loot reborn season 4 diablo 4 wiki guide 9

NOTE: If you hit the max level of Masterworking and you're unsatisfied with the results of the affixes, you can reset the and begin the process again. Masterworking requires specific materials and a gold fee to complete the service.

New Greater Affixes in Diablo 4

The Greater Affixes now only appear on Ancestral Legendary and Unique Items. These affixes are 1.5x more powerful than the normal affixes and provide a stronger combat advantage. A distinct audio cue will play whenever an item with a Greater Affix drops to alert players of its presence. It will also show a Unique Icon in the World and within the player's inventory. Greater Affixes are exclusive drops and cannot be acquired differently. They can only be found in World Tiers 3 and 4.

Improved Gems in Diablo 4

Gems have now been simplified and become more effective across the Sanctuary. Crude Gems have been removed and crafting levels have been shifted back. Normal Gems are now available at Level 51, Flawless at Level 711, and Royal at Level 91. The following changes will apply to the gems:

  • Diamonds will increases All Resistance Values
  • Topaz now increases Intelligence
  • Sapphire now increases Willpower
  • Amethyst now increases Strength
  • Emeralds now give bonus Dexterity

Helltide Reborn

Helltide gets massive upgrades that will level out the difficulty by increasing the danger of frequency ambushes through Threat level:

Helltide Threat and Hell-Marked

  • As you battle through Helltides, you will generate Threat – how much will be determined by the difficulty of monster and how often you’re securing Tortured Gifts within Helltide. Dying will reset your Threat.
  • There are three Helltide Threat Tiers, with each increasing the danger and frequency of monster ambushes. At Tier 3, you will become Hell-Marked.
    • Achieving maximum Threat will initiate a brief ambush frenzy of maximum enemy density. The ambush will end with a final Hellborne spawn, an immensely powerful agent of Hell, resurrected from the tortured souls of Sanctuary’s most powerful champions. There are five variants representing each Class in Diablo IV.
    • Upon activating the Hellborn ambush, your Threat will reset.

Unholy Blasphemy Accursed Ritual

  • Baneful Hearts can primarily be earned through opening Tortured Gift chests and can be used at the Accursed Ritual location.
  • A scene of shocking gore, the Accursed Ritual is the ultimate testament to the disturbing lengths the manic Cultists will go to appease their dark wishes. It is here where you can begin the Accursed Ritual.
  • Deposit three Baneful Hearts to begin the ritual, and you will be swarmed with a dense demonic ambush. Other players within your subzone will be alerted that the ritual has begun if they wish to join you in your fight.
  • This ambush will climax with the arrival of the Blood Maiden, an immensely powerful demonic creature who will offer great reward upon her death.

Helltides in World Tier 1 and 2 Adjustments

loot reborn season 4 diablo 4 wiki guide 14

  • To get players into the thick of Helltides much earlier in their overall Character journey, the Loot Reborn will see these upcoming adjustments to help make Helltide more fun and rewarding in World Tier I & II.
    • All Tortured Gifts are Mystery Chests.
    • No roaming bosses or ambient meteors.
    • Less monster density overall compared to World Tier III and IV.

More Helltide Changes

During Helltide Events, a new elixir called Profane Mindcage now has a chance to drop. Consuming this brand new elixir will increase the level of Helltide Monsters by 10 and Cinder Drop rates will be boosted. This elixir is a guaranteed drop from killing Hellborne. To balance out the game, diminishing returns are present on boosted Monster levels closer to level cap to allow progression in World Tiers while maintaining the same benefit from this powerful elixir.

The Profane Mindcage is a seasonal item and is only available during Season 4: Loot Reborn. As part of the PTR results, Doomsayers will no longer drop Chests of Doomsaying, instead, their previous rewards will not drop on death to remove the unnecessary cost of Cinder.

Defeat the final boss of The Pit to earn endgame upgrade Materials

There are rumors that deep within the network of dungeons crisscrossing the north of Sanctuary, there are strange varieties of ore, perfect for crafting exceptionally crafted armor with secret Horadric techniques.

  • Upon entering World Tier IV, you’ll receive a priority Quest to complete a Tier 46 Nightmare Dungeon. Upon completion, you’ll begin to collect Runeshard during endgame activities. Collect enough Runeshard to ultimately activate the Obelisk in Cerrigar.
  • Activating the Obelisk will send you to The Pit. Your goal will be to slay enough monsters before a 10-minute timer runs out. Each player death removes time from the clock: first death removes 30 seconds, second death removes 60 seconds, third and subsequent deaths will remove 90 seconds.
  • If you slay enough monsters, a portal will appear, taking you to the boss’s arena.
  • Killing the boss before the timer expires will grant you Masterworking materials and unlocks the next tier of The Pit.
    • Killing the boss with 4-6 minutes to spare grants you an additional Tier unlock.
    • Killing the boss with 6 or more minutes to spare grants you two additional Tier unlocks.
    • The Pit has hundreds of Tiers of difficulty.
      • If the Mastery timer expires before you finish running through the Pit you’ll still receive loot, but won’t receive any Masterworking materials.
  • The Pit can be undertaken with groups up to four, with the player who opened The Pit receiving the lion’s share of materials.
    • Only the player who opened The Pit has the chance of receiving the Materials used for summoning Tormented Echoes.

Boss Ladder Updates

The Echo of Andariel joins Diablo 4 Boss Ladder

  • The Echo of Andariel joins the ladder in our Season 4: Loot Reborn, in the same bracket as her brother Duriel, with the same Uber Unique drop rate. With a mix of Shadow, Fire, Lightning, and her iconic Poison attack, Andariel stands ready to face all who dare fathom her demise.
    • Summoning parts can be acquired from Beast in Ice and Lord Zir.

Stygian Stones can summon Tormented Echoes of ALL Ladder Bosses

  • Tormented Echoes of all ladder bosses can be summoned with Stygian Stones, obtained from deep within The Pit.
    • Stygian Stones are needed along with an increased amount of summoning materials, but fear not – they also drop more rewards!
    • Tormented Echoes will be level 200.
    • All items dropped are item level 925.
    • Defeating your first Tormented Echo drops one Resplendent Spark as a first-time reward (account bound).

What are Seasons in Diablo 4?

Seasons in Diablo 4 have been revealed to feature brand new content, as well as consistent updates and balancing of already-existing content. Currently when a player logs in and starts the game with their character, they should be able to see an indication that they’re playing this character in the Eternal Realm. However, as mentioned above, players who want to participate in a Season will have to create a completely new character from scratch, and this character can initially only be played in the Seasonal Realm that each new Season will make available. Players will have to build up these new characters from scratch, keeping in mind the different mechanics, stat balancing, and possibly even new abilities and Skills for the particular Season they made the character in.  All new features, mechanics, and rewards can only be accessed in this new realm. When the Season ends however, players’ characters that were created for that Season will be made available to play in the Eternal Realm, and certain other features, mechanics, and items may also become permanently transferred to the Eternal Realm, depending on how they were received by the community. When a new Season starts, the cycle will repeat, with players creating and building new characters once again.

Features of Diablo 4 Seasons

Seasons in Diablo 3 highlighted more a ranking system in the form of a Leaderboard, that was the main goal that players would strive towards. Players would get to race to the top and get the rewards, all while fairly starting from scratch. In Diablo 4 however, it seems that, at the very least for the first two Seasons, there will be no Leaderboard to speak of, and players will instead play seasonally mainly for new features, along with a new storyline every Season.

Story in Diablo 4 Seasons

Seasons in Diablo 4 have been said to be following its own standalone story, followed by players through its own main questline running throughout the Season. These questlines will feature new characters, as well as old characters that players have already met, along with new dialogue and voice lines, and new NPCs. Each Season will also employ a linear chapter progression, which means players will only be able to move on to the next chapter by finishing the previous ones while having the ability to go back to previous chapters if they would like to. As mentioned previously, this seems to be what the main goal of Seasons will be in Diablo 4, apart from just the plain challenge of starting and building characters from scratch, with new mechanics to keep in mind. Each chapter will have different objectives, which give players different rewards, including crafting Materials, items, and even Aspects.

Items and Balancing in Diablo 4 Seasons

New Legendary and Unique items, and the Unique Enemies that go along with them will also be created constantly for each new Season, in accordance with its different chapters. Alongside this, the game’s meta will also consistently be shifted and challenged, which we can presume to mean differences in certain ability mechanics, Affixes or item stats, or even new Skills altogether. There will also be new Legendary Aspects that are not at all obtainable in the Eternal Realm initially, which players can take into account as they build their new characters. As previously mentioned, these new mechanics will have a chance to be made permanent in the Eternal Realm when the Season ends, depending on how they were received by players.

Eternal Character vs Seasonal Character in Diablo 4

For players to join in Seasons, a new character must be made on the Seasonal Realm. This is a free feature for all Diablo 4 owners, and you do not need to purchase a Battle Pass or any add-ons to play the Seasonal content, but players are required to finish the Main Campaign on Eternal Realm with at least one character. Once you have completed the Campaign, any Seasonal character will start the game with:

  • Fresh new slate character
  • The option to skip the Campaign.
  • Mount is available immediately.
  • All previously discovered Altars of Lilith unlocked, and the corresponding Renown will be retained.
  • Map Discovery progress and the corresponding Renown will be retained.

seasonal characters season of the malignant diablo 4 wiki guide min

Once the Season has ended, the character you made and its progress will be transferred to the Eternal Realm. All items you collected, including in your Seasonal stash, will be transferred too. You can take this character into Sanctuary whenever you please, but Season-specific features such as Malignant Hearts will no longer be accessible.

Why Create a Seasonal Character in Diablo 4?

Seasons in Diablo 4 provides an opportunity to introduce new mechanics, features, and quality-of-life updates in the game. Each season features a reset, which allows a system to balance the mechanics created and introduced in the previous seasons. The Seasonal Characters will allow a leveled playing field for all players.

new character season of the malignant diablo 4 wiki guide min

Seasons are also a place for players to explore and tinker. Players are encouraged to create a new Class and try out different builds for a Class, or simply experiment with something new. The system of creating a Seasonal Character is a chance to get creative while fighting demons.

What happens to a Seasonal Character when a Season Ends in Diablo 4?

Any new character created during a Diablo IV season will transfer over to the Eternal Realm when the season concludes. They change from a Seasonal Character and become an Eternal Character, that can be played on the Eternal Realm.

Battlepass in Diablo 4 Seasons

One completely new feature of Seasons in Diablo 4 not present in its previous iterations in the previous games, is the Battlepass. The Battlepass will be a progression-based mechanic that players will get to enjoy, which will be renewed every Season. The Battlepass will feature tiers that can be unlocked by players through accumulating points throughout the Season. These points can be garnered by completing different objectives during the Season. Whenever players unlock a tier, they will receive a corresponding reward, which can range from Premium currency, to cosmetic items and gameplay boosts. These tiers are divided between Free Tiers and Premium Tiers, with the latter only available to players who choose to purchase the Premium version of the Battlepass, which will cost Premium currency. Overall, purchasing the Premium currency will only give players the advantage of being able to collect more cosmetic items, which are arguably better than cosmetic items acquired through unlocking Free Tiers.

Free Tiers in Diablo 4 Season Battlepass

Free Tiers in the Battlepass can be unlocked by anyone through accumulating points, which players will naturally garner by playing through the Season and its objectives. Tiers can also be unlocked by purchasing them for a certain amount of Premium currency. Rewards for these tiers will include in-game items, cosmetic items, and Smoldering Ashes. Smoldering Ashes can then be used to activate or enhance Seasonal Blessings. Seasonal Blessings are gameplay boosts that will give players an edge in progressing their newly-created characters. Tiers that reward Smoldering Ashes cannot be purchased for Premium currency. The following Seasonal Blessings are available in the Battlepass:

  • Urn of Aggression: Boosts the amount of Experience gained from killing Enemies.
  • Urn of Bargaining: Boosts the amount of Gold earned from selling items to Merchants.
  • Urn of Reclamation: Boosts the chance of acquiring rare Materials from Salvaging.
  • Urn of Prolonging: Boosts the effect-duration of all Elixirs.

These Seasonal Blessings can be enhanced three more times after they are unlocked, to a maximum level of four. It’s important to note that as these are Free Tiers, Diablo 4 makes gameplay boosts available for all players, assuming they play through the Season naturally and accumulate the milestone points needed to unlock and improve upon them.

Premium Tiers in Diablo 4 Season Battlepass

Premium Tiers in the Battlepass can be unlocked by upgrading to a Premium Battlepass, which will cost 1000 Platinum. Each tier will still need to be unlocked by accumulating milestone amounts of points, or by purchasing with Premium currency, meaning players who purchase the Premium Battlepass will still either have to complete the different chapters of each season, and the objectives within them, to get to the higher tiers. Rewards for these tiers will include more cosmetic items. It is important to note that developers have made known that they are laboring to make it so that cosmetic items acquired this way are only marginally arguably better than cosmetic items acquired by unlocking Free Tiers. Nevertheless, unlocking the Premium Battlepass will mean acquiring a larger variety of cosmetic items at the end of the Season.
