Seasons in Diablo 4 is an optional game mode that lasts for a couple of months and encourages the players to start a new character to enjoy and participate in Seasonal Events, Features, and Mechanics. Each Season can bring new Weapons, Armor, Accesories, Items, Enemies, Event Materials, and more, providing a fresh experience and the opportunity to try new strategies. Seasons also make for a fairer play, as all players participating have to start from the start. Read more about the Season Guides here.

Players participating in a Season will only be able to play and interact with other players participating in the same Season. Players won't be able to trade or receive help from characters outside the Season. Once the season ends, the character will be available to play in the Eternal Realm and a new character will have to be created in order to play the new season.

This page will be updated as new information about each Season in Diablo 4 is released.

Diablo 4 Season 2: Season of Blood

A new threat is once again posed to wreak havoc in Sanctuary, as the Dark Master commands his legion of sanguine-driven monsters to set their fangs on all the regions of unfortunate humanity. While vampiric danger is not new to the world of Sanctuary, this vampire threat proves to be different and more formidable. Therefore, the wander will have to fight a new way by harnessing Vampiric Powers themselves to combat the infestation. With the help of Erys, the vampire hunter who came up with this very realization, this new Season will have you harness new sanguine powers to destroy the new threat. New features go live on October 17, bringing a new Season Journey, Questline, five new Endgame Bosses, Dungeons, Battlepass, and more. The new season features a new mechanic for the player called Vampiric Powers, 12 new Unique Items, 7 new Legendary Aspects, and 10 new Paragon Glyphs.

For more in-depth information about the Season of Blood and all the new features it brings or improves, visit our page here.

As with the previous Season of the Malignant, to participate in the new upcoming season on October 17, Wanderers must create a new character on the Seasonal Realm. This is a free feature offered to all owners of Diablo 4. However, players must have completed the Main Campaign on at least one of the characters on the Eternal Realm, or Season 0. Once the main campaign has been completed, Wanderers can now participate in Season of Blood. To begin, players will be given the option to:

  • Skip the Campaign
  • Mount is available immediately for use on Seasonal Realm
  • All Altars of Lilith are unlocked, and the Renown Points will be retained
  • All Paragon Points and Obol Cap increases from the Renown System will be retained (NEW)
  • All previously discovered maps and the corresponding Renown Points will be retained

Diablo 4 Season of Blood: Bloodseekers and Vampires

In the new Season of Blood, the wanderer will endeavor to cleanse Sanctuary of an ever-growing vampire threat. Lord Zir, the Dark Master, threatens to bleed Sanctuary dry as it gets overrun by his sanguine generals, the Blood Seekers, by his command. Faced with overwhelming odds, the wanderer must use the legion's Vampiric Powers against them.

Diablo 4 New Endgame Bosses

The new Season of Blood brings with it five new Endgame Bosses that players can attempt to overcome for their valuable treasures. These new Bosses are only available in certain World Tiers, and are introduced with a new mechanic of summoning them in their respective Locations in Sanctuary. Doing so requires collecting materials that are acquired from finishing other Endgame content, such as high-level Helltide Events, high-tier Nightmare Dungeons, and destroying other Bosses over and over again. Players brave enough to face these new difficult threats are now able to farm them for Unique Items specific to each of their pools of loot. The Echo of Duriel, the new level 100 Boss, has Uber Unique Items in his loot pool. This new feature seems to be in response to player feedback of there not being enough opportunities for farming Uber Unique Items, and for target-farming specific Unique Items for their character Builds.

Diablo 4 Season of Blood New Questline

Erys is a skilled Vampire Hunter who has successfully routed myriads of vampires. However, this threat is different, and she is out to get at the root of the problem - Lord Zir, the Dark Master. Throughout the new Questline, she will be your reluctant guide. Much like Cormond, she will help you throughout your journey and will be a pivotal character for the Season's storyline. As you contract Vampirism, enabling you to use your Enemies' Vampiric Powers against them, she will be wary and guarded, seeing as her whole mission is to destroy vampires. Nevertheless, she will prove to be a strong ally in the fights to come.

Diablo 4 Season of Blood: New Vampiric Powers

Unlike most other powers, like the Malignant Hearts of the last Season, none of the all-new Vampiric Powers will be tied at all to any Class. Players will be able to learn and equip their first Vampiric Power shortly into the new Questline, during the Quest The Hunter's Chase. There are twenty-two new Vampiric Powers in total that players will be able to build into their characters for the Season of Blood. Vampire Powers can be managed through their own new tab on the Character menu.

On the Vampiric Powers tab, players can click on the option to spend Potent Blood which will allow them to randomly either improve or unlock new powers. The system makes it so that players will have to choose from three randomly selected Vampiric Powers, locked or unlocked, to spend their Potent Blood on. If a locked Vampiric Power is chosen, it will be unlocked and ready for the player to use. If it is unlocked, it will be improved instead. Vampiric Powers can be improved up to two times, for a maximum level of three. The wanderer can equip a maximum of five Vampiric Powers at a time.

Each Vampiric Power will also come with activation costs, which players must fulfill by having the right Pacts in their armor, and the right number of them to satisfy the activation costs.

Diablo 4 Season 2: New Gear

The hunt resumes once again in Diablo 4 with the arrival of 12 new Unique Items, 7 new Legendary Aspects, and 10 new Paragon Glyphs. Along your journey in the new Season of Blood, there will be powerful options for each class, lending more customization options, especially with the added consideration of Pact Amor for Vampiric Powers. New cosmetics will also be available, both in clearing Endgame content and through the renewal of Battlepass.

Midwinter Blight begins in Kyovashad where players will encounter a Bard named Gillian around the Hibernal Square who warns of the incoming storm. Players will also find the Totem of Midwinter in the same location in Kyovashad which will play a part in the event which will predominantly take place in Fractured Peaks. Players will face new foes like Blightfiends and the Red Cloaked Horror while completing new objectives to progress in this season's event.

To begin participating in the event, players will travel to Kyovashad and look for the new NPC called Gileon found west of the Waypoint. Gileon is a Bard rallying people to come together and defeat the rising evil called the Red-Cloaked Horror terrorizing Fractured Peaks. Participating during this limited-time event will drop seasonal materials that players can exchange at the Collection's Table for various rewards. The list of Midwinter Blight rewards can be found in the Rewards section of this page.

Players can earn additional rewards by leveling up the Midwinter Tribute. The Midwinter Tribute gains experience each time they exchange materials for 1 Midwinter Proof. Once you have collected enough Midwinter Proofs return to Kyovashad and look for the Vendor to exchange for rewards and new items. Below, you will find the list of items and prices you can buy with the Midwinter Proofs. It is recommended to purchase the limited-event rewards before spending your Midwinter Proofs on caches.

The Midwinter Spoils are ideal if you need coins that can be used for enhancing your gear. You can get as much as 1,000,000 gold from a single Midwinter Purse. Meanwhile, the Midwinter Spoils drops a collection of random Armor, gem Fragments, and possibly a dose of Gileon's Brew, which regularly costs 1 Midwinter Proof.

Diablo 4 Blighted Revelry: New Midwinter Blight Event

The Red-Cloaked Horror poses a threat anew. Players will find this new boss after completing the Mastery for the Blighted Revelry event, which randomly spawns in any of the event areas in Fractured Peaks. During this event, players will begin by lighting up a bonfire that will melt down the surrounding Frigid Husks while enemies are swarming in to attack.

Players will be challenged to protect the bonfire from the enemies while staying alive. After some time, players can destroy the Frigid Husks, and the Red-Cloaked Horror will appear if you complete the Mastery level. The Mastery level requires the player to complete the event in approximately 1 minute and 50 seconds.

The Red-Cloaked Horror will drop the Red-Cloaked Trophy upon defeat and will reward players with two new Titles: Frigid and Reveler upon defeating it for the first time. The Red-Cloaked Trophy can be used to exchange for 1 Midwinter Proof. Visit the vendor in Kyovashad to exchange your items.

Midwinter Blight New Materials and Currency for Exchange in Diablo 4

During the Midwinter Blight event, there will be new materials and currency for players to collect and exchange to obtain time-limited rewards. Midwinter Proof is the new seasonal currency that can be used to purchase Midwinter Rewards from Gileon at the Midwinter Square in Kyovashad. There are 3 ways for players to obtain the new seasonal currency:

Similar to a Helltide event in Diablo 4, the following materials can be found within the purple-marked zone of the Midwinter Blight. Once players have collected enough materials, they can exchange them at the Collection's Table in Kyovashad, located next to Gileon. Players can use the Midwinter Proofs to buy various time-limited rewards such as cosmetics, an offensive aspect, and a new magical elixir.

  • Blighted Fragment: Can be collected from fallen Blightfiends. [300 Blighted Fragment for 1 Midwinter Proof]
  • Lost Heirloom: Can be collected by destroying Frigid Husks, found scattered within the Midwinter Blight area. This is a structure similar to other destroyable world items. [30 Lost Heirlooms for 1 Midwinter Proof]
  • Red-Cloaked Trophy: Can be collected by killing the Red-Cloaked Horror, the new seasonal boss. [1 Red-Cloaked Trophy for 1 Midwinter Proof]

Midwinter Blight Vendor Location and Inventory in Diablo 4

The Midwinter Blight Vendor is in Kyovashad and the same NPC where you first start the event. Gileon is found west of the Waypoint in Kyovashad and players may also buy the Shard of Dawn Offensive Aspect and the new Magical Elixir, Gileon's Brew. Additionally, there are Midwinter Caches that can be exchanged with the vendor at Midwinter Square. Each of the caches contains valuable rewards such as Armor, Gem Fragments, and a chance to receive a Gileon's Brew. What are Seasons in Diablo 4?

Seasons in Diablo 4 have been revealed to feature brand new content, as well as consistent updates and balancing of already-existing content. Currently when a player logs in and starts the game with their character, they should be able to see an indication that they’re playing this character in the Eternal Realm. However, as mentioned above, players who want to participate in a Season will have to create a completely new character from scratch, and this character can initially only be played in the Seasonal Realm that each new Season will make available. Players will have to build up these new characters from scratch, keeping in mind the different mechanics, stat balancing, and possibly even new abilities and Skills for the particular Season they made the character in.  All new features, mechanics, and rewards can only be accessed in this new realm. When the Season ends however, players’ characters that were created for that Season will be made available to play in the Eternal Realm, and certain other features, mechanics, and items may also become permanently transferred to the Eternal Realm, depending on how they were received by the community. When a new Season starts, the cycle will repeat, with players creating and building new characters once again.

Features of Diablo 4 Seasons

Seasons in Diablo 3 highlighted more a ranking system in the form of a Leaderboard, that was the main goal that players would strive towards. Players would get to race to the top and get the rewards, all while fairly starting from scratch. In Diablo 4 however, it seems that, at the very least for the first two Seasons, there will be no Leaderboard to speak of, and players will instead play seasonally mainly for new features, along with a new storyline every Season.

Story in Diablo 4 Seasons

Seasons in Diablo 4 have been said to be following its own standalone story, followed by players through its own main questline running throughout the Season. These questlines will feature new characters, as well as old characters that players have already met, along with new dialogue and voice lines, and new NPCs. Each Season will also employ a linear chapter progression, which means players will only be able to move on to the next chapter by finishing the previous ones while having the ability to go back to previous chapters if they would like to. As mentioned previously, this seems to be what the main goal of Seasons will be in Diablo 4, apart from just the plain challenge of starting and building characters from scratch, with new mechanics to keep in mind. Each chapter will have different objectives, which give players different rewards, including crafting Materials, items, and even Aspects.

Items and Balancing in Diablo 4 Seasons

New Legendary and Unique items, and the Unique Enemies that go along with them will also be created constantly for each new Season, in accordance with its different chapters. Alongside this, the game’s meta will also consistently be shifted and challenged, which we can presume to mean differences in certain ability mechanics, Affixes or item stats, or even new Skills altogether. There will also be new Legendary Aspects that are not at all obtainable in the Eternal Realm initially, which players can take into account as they build their new characters. As previously mentioned, these new mechanics will have a chance to be made permanent in the Eternal Realm when the Season ends, depending on how they were received by players.

Eternal Character vs Seasonal Character in Diablo 4

For players to join in Seasons, a new character must be made on the Seasonal Realm. This is a free feature for all Diablo 4 owners, and you do not need to purchase a Battle Pass or any add-ons to play the Seasonal content, but players are required to finish the Main Campaign on Eternal Realm with at least one character. Once you have completed the Campaign, any Seasonal character will start the game with:

  • Fresh new slate character
  • The option to skip the Campaign.
  • Mount is available immediately.
  • All previously discovered Altars of Lilith unlocked, and the corresponding Renown will be retained.
  • Map Discovery progress and the corresponding Renown will be retained.

seasonal characters season of the malignant diablo 4 wiki guide min

Once the Season has ended, the character you made and its progress will be transferred to the Eternal Realm. All items you collected, including in your Seasonal stash, will be transferred too. You can take this character into Sanctuary whenever you please, but Season-specific features such as Malignant Hearts will no longer be accessible.

Why Create a Seasonal Character in Diablo 4?

Seasons in Diablo 4 provides an opportunity to introduce new mechanics, features, and quality-of-life updates in the game. Each season features a reset, which allows a system to balance the mechanics created and introduced in the previous seasons. The Seasonal Characters will allow a leveled playing field for all players.

new character season of the malignant diablo 4 wiki guide min

Seasons are also a place for players to explore and tinker. Players are encouraged to create a new Class and try out different builds for a Class, or simply experiment with something new. The system of creating a Seasonal Character is a chance to get creative while fighting demons.

What happens to a Seasonal Character when a Season Ends in Diablo 4?

Any new character created during a Diablo IV season will transfer over to the Eternal Realm when the season concludes. They change from a Seasonal Character and become an Eternal Character, that can be played on the Eternal Realm.

Battlepass in Diablo 4 Seasons

One completely new feature of Seasons in Diablo 4 not present in its previous iterations in the previous games, is the Battlepass. The Battlepass will be a progression-based mechanic that players will get to enjoy, which will be renewed every Season. The Battlepass will feature tiers that can be unlocked by players through accumulating points throughout the Season. These points can be garnered by completing different objectives during the Season. Whenever players unlock a tier, they will receive a corresponding reward, which can range from Premium currency, to cosmetic items and gameplay boosts. These tiers are divided between Free Tiers and Premium Tiers, with the latter only available to players who choose to purchase the Premium version of the Battlepass, which will cost Premium currency. Overall, purchasing the Premium currency will only give players the advantage of being able to collect more cosmetic items, which are arguably better than cosmetic items acquired through unlocking Free Tiers.

Free Tiers in Diablo 4 Season Battlepass

Free Tiers in the Battlepass can be unlocked by anyone through accumulating points, which players will naturally garner by playing through the Season and its objectives. Tiers can also be unlocked by purchasing them for a certain amount of Premium currency. Rewards for these tiers will include in-game items, cosmetic items, and Smoldering Ashes. Smoldering Ashes can then be used to activate or enhance Seasonal Blessings. Seasonal Blessings are gameplay boosts that will give players an edge in progressing their newly-created characters. Tiers that reward Smoldering Ashes cannot be purchased for Premium currency. The following Seasonal Blessings are available in the Battlepass:

  • Urn of Aggression: Boosts the amount of Experience gained from killing Enemies.
  • Urn of Bargaining: Boosts the amount of Gold earned from selling items to Merchants.
  • Urn of Reclamation: Boosts the chance of acquiring rare Materials from Salvaging.
  • Urn of Prolonging: Boosts the effect-duration of all Elixirs.

These Seasonal Blessings can be enhanced three more times after they are unlocked, to a maximum level of four. It’s important to note that as these are Free Tiers, Diablo 4 makes gameplay boosts available for all players, assuming they play through the Season naturally and accumulate the milestone points needed to unlock and improve upon them.

Premium Tiers in Diablo 4 Season Battlepass

Premium Tiers in the Battlepass can be unlocked by upgrading to a Premium Battlepass, which will cost 1000 Platinum. Each tier will still need to be unlocked by accumulating milestone amounts of points, or by purchasing with Premium currency, meaning players who purchase the Premium Battlepass will still either have to complete the different chapters of each season, and the objectives within them, to get to the higher tiers. Rewards for these tiers will include more cosmetic items. It is important to note that developers have made known that they are laboring to make it so that cosmetic items acquired this way are only marginally arguably better than cosmetic items acquired by unlocking Free Tiers. Nevertheless, unlocking the Premium Battlepass will mean acquiring a larger variety of cosmetic items at the end of the Season.
