Emotes and Actions in Diablo 4 are the collections of reactions or actions that are accessed by bringing up the action wheel. Players can use these actions to allow their character to express communicative actions and gestures such as saying hello, bye, or thank you. The wheel can then be customized to fit the actions that players wish to prioritize. There are a total of 3 action wheels that are easily activated at a click of a button depending on the device that you are playing on. The action wheel can also then be fitted with other features such as consumables, Miscellaneous items, and social options.

Diablo 4 Action and Emote Wheel Guide

Diablo 4 Action Wheel

Players will have access to 3 different action wheels at a time when playing Diablo 4. You can toggle left and right to view all gestures on the wheel. Which wheel you are viewing is indicated by the three dots on top. There are 8 sections on each wheel that can each contain an emote or action. If there is no Action assigned to the slot, it will be listed as empty. This gives you a total of 24 slots that can be customized and fitted with different actions and emotes.

Customizing the Action Wheel

The Customize option is available as players pull up the Action Wheel. Once you have navigated to the customization menu, you can click and drag your emote to your preferred slot on the wheel or by selecting a desired action and choosing to assign it before selecting a spot. You can also toggle the different wheels which will be indicated below. The title will read Customize Middle Wheel if the middle wheel is selected. Use the left and right arrows to view and customize the actions on the left and right wheels. You can then browse through each of the four tabs from the Emotes, Consumables, Miscellaneous, and Social actions that can be assigned to your action wheel.

Using the Action Wheel in Diablo 4

Emote Uses in Diablo 4

Emotes can be used as an additional communication feature that allows the player's character to express a quick gesture or perform a short animation sequence. This includes gestures of thanks, simple greetings, or asking for help. These Emotes are also usually accompanied by a dialogue box to indicate what you are trying to express along with a voice-acted speech of the selected command, so other players will also hear what you are trying to communicate with your character.

These Emotes can be used for quick use in addition to other existing communication features including Voice Chat and other Chatting Features.

How to use Diablo 4 Emotes

Players will have quick access to their action wheel by pressing 'E' to bring up your action wheel button on the Keyboard depending on the console or device you are using to play Diablo 4, or the up button on the d-pad for the controller. This will display all equipped actions and emotes. There will be 3 wheels in total that you can browse through and fill with different actions and emotes. On the Keyboard, this will be the 'E' key by default or the up arrow on your D-pad on the console.

You can double-check which buttons are bound to the Action wheel by accession your options Menu and Selecting controls. On the keyboard, you will be able to adjust your preferred Key Bindings so that you can bind the wheel to your preferred key.

Once the Action Wheel is displayed, players can then select which action or gesture they wish to perform, and depending on the selected motion, your character will perform a quick animation or quickly access the menu you selected.

Unique Interactions with Diablo 4 Emotes

Using Emotes around different NPCs, environments, and elements in the game may sometimes cause them to react back to you. Use "Hello" around dogs, and you will be able to pet them. This sometimes results in gaining a new friend and the dog may begin to follow you around. Other times, using Emotes at specific spots is a requirement to fulfill certain objectives for quests. To see which quests require Action Wheel actions, refer to the list below.

Quests that Require Emotes

Some Quests include objectives that require players to use a specific Emote at a location.

Side Quest: Raising Spirits

  • Objective: Cheer at the training militia
  • Use "Cheer" by the training Militia

Side Quest: Traveler's Prayer

  • Objective: Give thanks at the shrine
  • Use "Thanks" at the shrine

Side Quest: Secret of the Spring

  • Solve the note's riddle
  • Riddle: "Beacon of warmth in winter's embrace, patience rewarded by nature's own grace."
  • Use "Wait" nearby a hot spring

Side Quest: Keeping the Old Traditions

  • Show the ancient statue you keep the traditions
  • Riddle: "Though timeworn, you endure. Before your colorful kin, I say Yes, I keep our traditions!"
  • Use "Yes" nearby the ancient Statue

Mark for Blood Explained

Some actions have straightforward uses and give players easy access to certain menus such as social uses and inviting players. Not all of these actions will be available at all times and will have certain requirements such as requiring that players are nearby for any social actions or needing to be in a specific location to perform an action. This applies to "Mark for Blood." Players need to be within the designated Endgame PvP Zones in order to access these features and give themselves a Bloodmark. This indicates to other players that you wish to engage in PvP and also allows you to begin to attack other players. However, once you select to Mark for Blood, you are then officially Bloodmarked which cannot be removed by accessing the Action Wheel.

pvp popup diablo 4 wiki guide

Players who wish to cease their PvP interactions can then interact with an accessible Altar of Cleansing to remove the Bloodmark. The Altar of Cleansing can also be found at each of the Fields of Hatred areas. With the Bloodmark removed, players can still remain in the Fields of Hatred and PvP zones however they will not be able to attack other players or be attacked by other players.

Wings of the Creator Emote Diablo 4

Wings of the Creator is a special Emote that is only available with the purchase of the Ultimate Edition of Diablo 4. It has a very bright and attractive appearance that is sure to grab the attention of those around. All players around you will be able to see the emote once activated since gestures can be used as a social tool to communicate as well. Since the Wings of the Creator is not a partially common gesture, it is predominantly used to perform a special animation and show off its rarity coming exclusively from the Exclusive Edition of the game.

This special emote can be used an equipped like any other Emote or action and can be assigned to the Action Wheel upon purchase. The Wings of the Creator is meant to complement other cosmetic items such as the Inarius Wings and Murloc Pets that can be received with the Standard Edition preorder of the game. Players who opted for the Ultimate Edition also received a 4-day early access to the game, accelerated Seasonal Battle Pass Unlock in Diablo® IV, 20 Tier Skips, and a cosmetic including the Temptation Mount and the Hellborn Carapace mount Armor.
