Legendary Aspects in Diablo 4 are unique modifiers that can transform Rare items into Legendary ones. When you obtain a Legendary item from a drop, it will already have a Legendary Aspect assigned to it based on the gear slot type.
In addition to finding Aspects on loot drops, you can also unlock them by completing specific Dungeons in the game. These Aspects are recorded in the Codex of Power and provide you with a baseline of bonuses to improve your character until you find better gear drops. However, when imprinted at the Occultist, they always roll the lowest possible value. So, even if you have unlocked an Aspect, you will still want to keep looking for better versions of it on gear drops to replace lower rolls.
It's also possible to find Aspects that are very powerful but may not be suited to your character's build due to the gear-slot it's on. In this case, you can extract the Legendary Aspect from the item, but it comes at a high Gold cost and destroys the original gear piece. However, the extracted Legendary Aspect can then be imprinted onto a gear-slot that is better suited to your character's needs.
Diablo 4 Legendary Aspect Categories
Legendary Aspects are powerful modifications that can only be imprinted on specific slots of rare or legendary items. They are categorized into Offensive, Defensive, Resource, Utility, and Mobility. Each category can only be imprinted on specific gear slots, so you need to carefully consider which aspects to imprint on which item.
Offensive Aspects: can be imprinted on Gloves, 1H Weapons, 2H Weapons (with a 100% effectiveness bonus), Rings, and Amulets (with a 50% effectiveness bonus).
Defensive Aspects: can be imprinted on Helms, Chest Armor, Pants, Shields, and Amulets (with a 50% effectiveness bonus).
Resource Aspects: can be imprinted on Helms, Rings, and Amulets (with a 50% effectiveness bonus).
Utility Aspects: can be imprinted on Helms, Chest Armor, Boots, Gloves, and Amulets (with a 50% effectiveness bonus).
Mobility Aspects: can only be imprinted on Boots and Amulets (with a 50% effectiveness bonus).
It's important to note that the Codex always imprints the minimum value and does not display the maximum possible for an Aspect. While we were able to confirm some values from drops that show the ranges, most are still unknown. Additionally, certain flat value powers can scale either with character level or item power. By strategically imprinting Legendary Aspects on your gear, you can enhance your character's build and gain a significant advantage in combat.
How to extract a Legendary Aspect in Diablo 4
If you come across a Legendary Aspect on gear that doesn't fit your build, don't despair! You can extract it at The Occultist for a significant Gold fee. Once extracted, the Aspect is stored in your Aspect Inventory tab, ready for use on a different piece of gear. You can even transfer the Aspect to your Stash if your Aspect Inventory is full. Extracted Aspects come with information about which item types they can be imprinted on and any bonuses they provide when imprinted on specific pieces. This is a great way to repurpose powerful Aspects that would otherwise go to waste on gear you don't use.
Can I equip an item with a Legendary Aspect that belongs to another class?
Yes, you can, but doing so, will render the Legendary Aspect unusable in that character, since you can't receive the specifics bonuses.
For example, a Rogue can decide to imprint Aspect of Ancestral Force into a Bow, and can still equip it. However, the bonus of Aspect of Ancestral Force which makes Hammer of the Ancients quakes outwards, dealing a percentage of its damage to enemies, will be useless, since Rogues don't have that Skill.
