Why Master the Advance Mechanics of Combat?

You have completed the main campaign and now you are asking, why master the combat further? The main indeed laid the foundation of combat in general. However, Diablo 4 is designed to provide an engaging end-game loop, prolonging its lifespan and keeping players engaged. This is one of the goals that Blizzard envisioned. Diablo 4 will be a lifetime service. This explains its online connection requirement so players will be hooked into the said gameplay loop or ecosystem filled with rewarding encounters, in-game events, player vs player experience, addicting character progression, and more. After the Main Campaign, you will start participating in these events and we call these activities end-game content. The reason why you need to master the advanced mechanics of Combat is to fare well in end-game content.Using your post-game build will not be enough to tackle end-game challenges such as Nightmare Dungeons that keep on getting harder and harder as players go through higher tiers of World Tier Difficulties. You've been wondering, why bump up the difficulty if your character can seamlessly clear enemies or clear dungeons in your current world difficulty?

The answer lies in character progression and the gearing system. To perform in the end game in general, you need better gear aside from having a good build. Your current Legendaries from World Tier 2 for example will be heavily obsolete by the new ones that drop from higher difficulty. Take it as an example, Legendaries vs Sacred Legendaries. Sacred vs Ancestral Legendaries. Sacred Legendaries are better than regular Legendaries and so are Ancestrals being better than Sacreds. You have now a fair idea of how the loop will go on and at least answer the idea of why you need to improve in combat in general. To fare well and enjoy continuous progress, understanding the advanced part of combat is a must. Having said that, the majority of the player base wants to improve and clear as much end-game content as possible, and if you are one of these players, this guide will help you reach end-game content and provide clear guidelines on what you should focus on and ultimately fare well at end-game.

Advanced Combat Tips

More Advanced Tips

In combat, relentlessly attacking your enemies or skill spamming will only work in certain scenarios. Doing the same tactics over and over may not fare well in the majority of end-game content. Thus, players need to effectively adapt by learning advanced maneuvering techniques in order to survive and ultimately manage skill cooldowns to take down even the mighties foes in battle. This section will cover how advanced maneuvering works so you will have an idea and practice it on your own.

Kiting in Combat

Maintaining a safe distance from adversaries while continuously striking them, kiting is a crucial strategy employed by ranged characters, although it can also prove advantageous for melee classes. More into this, as the name implies, take it as flying a kite. You are letting enemies follow you by continuously moving around the arena while effectively dishing out your skills and managing your skill cooldowns. Without kiting, standing in the center of enemy packs is a death wish. Assess your distance from your targets, outsmart them with evades which we will cover later on, and activate your skills accordingly. Not only your character will last longer since you are cutting the incoming damage, but you can also cycle from your skill's cooldowns.

Use Evade Frequently

Evading is one of the best features in combat that players can take advantage of. In relation to Kiting, the evade feature and kiting strategy work hand in hand. In kiting, to successfully pull this strategy, players need to distance themselves from a pack of enemies and maneuver around the arena while using skills. In this manner, overall received damage will be lessened. Evade helps you move faster and kite enemies as you can cover ground distance fairly easily. Gap closing is where evade shines as well especially for melee players. Melee fighters such as Barbarians and Rogues are required to be in the melee range to use their skills. Evade can serve as an offensive and defensive tool in combat.

Potion Management

Potion management is one of the key advanced strategies that easily get overlooked. Continuous spamming of Potions may only deplete your reserves faster and ultimately meet your demise in combat. How to do it correctly? Potion management requires knowledge about the enemies that you are going up against. Let's focus on bosses, bosses in Diablo 4 have certain thresholds when they will drop potion charges. Mastering the said thresholds will allow you to strategize much more effectively. For example, at a certain threshold, you know that the boss will drop potions after dealing with a certain amount of damage. However, your Potion charges are full and your character has 60 to 70% HP left. If you know that the boss will drop charges, you can use the Potions you have and get the new ones and still enjoy full charges.

Understanding Crowd Control Skills

In Diablo 4, Crowd Control refers to a debuff that restricts the movement, attacks, and spellcasting abilities of both your enemies and your character. It grants you the ability to "control" your opponents by hindering their actions and mobility. There are different types of crowd control effects that can be applied through various abilities. Here is a selection of the most commonly encountered ones:

  • Stun: Renders your enemies completely immobile and unable to act.
  • Freeze: Renders your enemies completely immobile and unable to act.
  • Slow: Decelerates the movements of your enemies.
  • Daze: Prevents your enemies from attacking or casting spells.
  • Rooted: Prevents your enemies from moving.
  • Knock Back: Forces your enemies away from you.

As demonstrated, some crowd control effects fully immobilize your enemies, while others only partially restrict their actions. However, the more potent effects usually have a shorter duration. Diablo 4 provides numerous ways to exercise control over your enemies. Barbarians possess various skills that can induce Stun upon striking an enemy. Sorcerers tend to employ Freeze or Slow effects, while Rogues have the ability to Daze or even Root their opponents using specialized traps. It is a must to know your crowd control skills and managed your skill cooldowns wisely to take advantage fully of crowd control.

Master Skills and Knowing Their Effects

In correlation to crowd controls, it is a must to know your builds and the skills available for you to use. Mastering your arsenal is the key to tackling the hardest challenges in Diablo 4 and spamming your skills without understanding how it works will only get you so far. Good builds in Diablo 4 often provide the right skill combinations. Mastering these skills will increase your overall DPS and eventually clear enemy groups much faster. Take the time to understand your builds and skills. Especially their effects, damage output, and cool downs. So you can cycle through your skills much faster. On the other hand, it is best to pick a good build before trying to master it and we will share more about this later on in this guide.

Gearing Overview in Diablo 4

The Gear System

Gearing is an essential aspect of Diablo 4 and plays a crucial role in achieving success, particularly when facing end-game challenges. This is why we have included a detailed section on gearing in our Advanced Combat Guide. Understanding how gearing works is essential for effectively engaging in combat. To confront the impending horrors, the game not only requires skill and determination but also the appropriate equipment. Our comprehensive Diablo 4 gearing guide will provide an in-depth exploration of the intricate process of acquiring the highly sought-after Best-in-Slot gear.

Whether you are an experienced Diablo player or new to the series, grasping the strategies and pathways to obtain Best-in-Slot gear is vital for maximizing your character's potential. We will cover everything from the leveling phase to endgame activities, unraveling the key steps and methods that will serve as your guide on the journey toward unparalleled power. So, prepare your weapons, unleash your spells, and let us embark on an adventure through the realm of Diablo 4, where the secrets of acquiring Best-in-Slot gear await discovery.

How The Gear System Works

The entire gearing system in Diablo 4 revolves around a continuous process of upgrading your existing gear. This process begins as soon as you enter the game and persists indefinitely. Throughout your journey, you will come across numerous items of varying rarities, each possessing different effects. Your ultimate objective is to acquire a complete set of Best-in-Slot items, and there are numerous sources available to accomplish this. In the following sections of this guide, you will discover the different tiers of item rarity present in the game.

advanced combat7 diablo 4 wiki guide min

Additionally, we will provide examples of the various stats that can be found on your gear. It is important to familiarize yourself with the equipment rarity categories that exist in Diablo 4 when striving to collect Best-in-Slot items. Below, we have compiled a list of the five gear tiers that will be available upon launch, as of now, you have a brief idea of how the rarity works for Diablo 4. Common Rarity is the most typical drop in the game and Unique is the highest tier.

  • Common: Item Color - White, Maximum Affixes: 0
  • Magic: Item Color - Blue, Maximum Affixes: 1
  • Rare: Item Color - Yellow, Maximum Affixes: 3
  • Legendary: Item Color - Orange, Maximum Affixes: 5
  • Unique: Item Color - Light Orange, Maximum Affixes: 5

Based on the provided list, it appears that Unique items will hold the highest level of power in the game. However, they will be exceedingly rare, and acquiring them will pose a significant challenge. In fact, players can only anticipate obtaining 1 to 2 Unique items per season. Furthermore, it is important to note that Unique items can only be obtained once the player reaches World Tier 3.

What are Affixes in Diablo 4?

In Diablo 4, Affixes refer to a collection of bonus stats or effects that are present on specific gear items. When aiming to collect Best-in-Slot items, it is crucial to consider the Affixes they possess. The game already offers a vast array of Diablo 4 gear Affixes, and this list is likely to expand further with future patches. These affixes can be categorized into three main types:

  • Offensive
  • Defensive
  • Utility

It is important to note that the affix type available on a gear slot may vary. For example, weapons cannot have Defensive affixes at all. Conversely, armor pieces are unable to possess Offensive Affixes. Now that you have a basic idea of how Affixes work, we encourage you to visit our dedicated page for Affixes.

imprint aspect affixes diablo 4 wiki guide

We do have a comprehensive list of all Affixes available and try to target the Affixes that will benefit your build. Aim for the one's essentials and do not forget to balance Affixes out since Glass Cannon builds are for veterans. It is advisable to test balanced builds first before trying complicated ones. Click here for the Affixes Page.

Sacred & Ancestral Gear in Diablo 4

After you get into World Tier 3, you will get a chance to obtain not only Unique items but Sacred and Ancestral ones as well. Starting with Sacred ones, they are going to be a better version of basic-tier items. For example, you can hope to find Sacred Unique items, which are going to be around 20% better than their original version. The same applies to Rare and Legendary tiers as well. The idea is quite similar after you get into World Tier 4. You will have a chance to obtain Ancestral items. They are a higher tier than Sacred ones. So, you would have Base Legendary items, Sacred Legendary items, and Ancestral Legendary items. This is just an example, they can of other tiers as well. However, at this point of the game, items of a lower tier than Legendary do not look too competitive. There is one important thing to keep in mind with all that. You are not able to apply a Legendary Aspect you have extracted from a Base Legendary item and insert it into a Sacred one. If you wish to do this, you need to find a Sacred Legendary item, extract its Legendary Aspect, and then apply it to the item from the same rarity pool. So, as you can see, there are a lot of stages for you to pass before you can finally get your hands on BiS gear. On top of that, you should remember that jumping from one World Tier to another means you will be getting not only better rewards but fighting more dangerous enemies as well.

Core Stats Explained in Diablo 4

When discussing gear stats in Diablo 4, we won't delve too deeply into this topic as the game developers have aimed to make the system straightforward. In brief, there are Core stats and Non-Core stats present in the game. Let's start with the Core stats, which consist of the following four categories:

  • Strength
  • Intelligence
  • Willpower
  • Dexterity

Depending on the class you are playing, one of these stats will serve as your primary attribute, providing the greatest boost. For instance, Barbarians benefit most from Strength as it enhances their overall damage output and so on. Each level gained grants a +1 increase to all four of these stats. Additionally, Altars of Lilith can be discovered to provide a +2 boost to one of these stats, which applies to all existing and future characters on your account.

advanced combat4 diablo 4 wiki guide min

Furthermore, you can equip specific armor and jewelry to further increase these stats. Moving on to Non-Core stats, they can be obtained from weapons, amulets, and armor. Providing an exhaustive list of all these stats would be extensive, but here are a few examples to provide a sense of their range:

  • Attack Speed
  • Dodge Chance
  • Critical Strike Chance
  • Maximum Life
  • Resistance to Elements

These examples represent just a fraction of the numerous stats you will encounter throughout your journey in Diablo 4. Acquiring the best equipment pieces is only one aspect of your journey toward becoming the strongest hero on your server. Firstly, you need to reach the level cap of 100, which is a challenging task to accomplish.

Advanced Builds Suggestions

Insight About Builds

Diablo 4 features a lineup of classes that bears a resemblance to those found in previous games. The five classes in Diablo 4 are the Barbarian, Sorceress, Rogue, Necromancer, and Druid. Players must choose from these five classes to find the one that aligns best with their preferred playstyle. With each class offering distinct characteristics and abilities, a diverse range of playstyles can be accommodated. It is anticipated that Blizzard will introduce additional classes in future updates, expanding the options available to players. Each Diablo 4 class possesses unique class mechanics, allowing them to feel distinct from one another and providing further customization options to tailor their playstyle.

Notably, classes in Diablo 4 are not gender locked, and a straightforward character customization tool is provided to modify the physical features of your chosen class. In this section, we have provided five examples of Advance Class Builds that will give a fair idea of how advanced combat works along with a brief explanation of how the build works. For more builds, we do have a dedicated page that explores all the possible builds for each class. Click the image below to access the Builds Page.

Freezing Rain Rogue Bow Build (Level 50-70 Build)

The Midgame Build for Rogue in Diablo 4, known as the Freezing Rain Rogue Build, is centered around the Rapid Fire skill. It serves as a natural progression from the Cold Archer Build. This Diablo 4 build focuses on using the Rapid Fire ability to shoot enemies quickly and freeze them in place. There are a couple of reasons why I am satisfied with this build. First, Rapid Fire has a high chance to bounce to another enemy when used with a two-handed weapon, especially on a bow. This allows for more effective attacks. Although Rapid Fire usually hits enemies in a straight line and lacks area-of-effect damage, the ricochets make up for it, making the skill more useful. The second reason is the Exploit Glyph, which solves the energy problem associated with using Rapid Fire. When you damage enemies with this glyph, they become Vulnerable for a short time, increasing the damage they take. This is important because we don't have a natural way to apply for the Vulnerable status. By exploiting this bonus, we can deal more damage and defeat enemies quickly. To address the energy issue further, we have the Improved Rapid Fire upgrade. This upgrade grants 15 energy for each cast of Rapid Fire when it damages a Vulnerable enemy, but it costs 20 energy to use. This means we only lose 5 energy per cast, which is usually sufficient for most boss fights.

In case we still need more energy, we have the Enhanced Concealment upgrade for the Concealment ability and the fully upgraded Aftermath passive. Enhanced Concealment gives us 40 energy when entering Concealment, while Aftermath provides 75 energy when using the ultimate skill, which we use regularly in this build. This build also utilizes the Preparation Specialization, which reduces the cooldown of the ultimate skill by 4 seconds for every hundred energy spent. With Rapid Fire as our primary attack and no need for basic attacks, we can consistently trigger this reduction. As a result, every five rapid fires will reduce the cooldown of our Rain of Arrows skill by 4 seconds. This allows us to use the ultimate skill more frequently and maximize its effectiveness. With this build, we can continuously use Rapid Fire to attack any enemy we encounter, freezing them in place and dealing significant damage.

Ice Vortex Barbarian Build (Level 70 Build)

The Whirlwind Barbarian at Level 70 brings a unique twist by chilling enemies. With its formidable damage output, this build enables swift content clearing as soon as you reach Tier 4. This whirlwind build excels in clearing enemies swiftly, enabling you to handle large groups of elites within seconds. It also provides exceptional speed, significantly reducing dungeon-clearing time. What sets this build apart from others is the utilization of Penitent Greaves as a crowd control mechanism. By leaving a frosty trail, Penitent Greaves chill enemies standing on it, greatly impeding their movement and attack speed. This grants you better control over the battlefield and allows for efficient management of large enemy packs. Setting up the build is straightforward, but there are various options available to further enhance its performance. This makes it suitable for both Tier IV beginners and players seeking to rapidly farm experience, Nightmare Dungeons, or loot in general. It enables you to effortlessly tackle content that may be several levels above your current capabilities.

To maximize damage output, it is essential to accumulate both Aspect of Limitless Rage and Aspect of the Expectant. This can be achieved by using a couple of lunging strikes and monitoring the buffs displayed on your skill bar. Once the numbers reach their maximum, you can unleash the whirlwind at its full power. When using shouts, aim to strike as many enemies as possible to reduce their cooldowns further. If you utilize Rallying Cry to navigate the dungeon, also employ War Cry and Challenging Shout, as the paragon glyph will assist in reducing their cooldowns. Investing your Obols in rings is highly recommended, as this will provide you with improved versions of Aspect of Echoing Fury and Bold Chieftain's Aspect. Additionally, remember to craft and consume Precision Elixirs, which increase critical strike chance and critical strike damage, further boosting the build's performance. This build is specifically designed for engaging multiple enemies simultaneously, so it is advisable to explore dungeons with narrow corridors and large enemy groups.

Blood Lancer Necromancer Build (Level 50-70 Build)

The Midgame Build for Necromancer in Diablo 4, known as the Blood Lancer Necromancer Build, is a burst-oriented build that centers around utilizing Overpower and the Blood Lance ability to unleash devastating damage. This unique Diablo 4 Build sets itself apart by utilizing the Blood Lance skill, which allows you to hurl a lance in a straight line to damage enemies. Notably, when you hit subsequent targets within 3 seconds, the initial target continues to receive damage. It's beneficial to spread your blood lances to multiple foes whenever possible. With the Enhanced Blood Lance upgrade, the lance can pierce through already-lanced enemies, albeit with a 15% damage reduction. Aligning targets and casting blood lances through the original target enables efficient damage stacking. To further enhance the build, consider acquiring the Supernatural Blood Lance upgrade. This guarantees an Overpower activation and spawns a Blood Orb from the first enemy hit every 8 casts.

The potential for significant damage amplification arises if you've already increased your Overpower Damage. However, you must act swiftly within the 3-second window to strike as many other targets as possible. Consequently, having a high Attack Speed proves advantageous for efficiently utilizing multiple lances when enemies are spread out across the screen. To optimize the Blood Lancer Diablo 4 Necromancer Build, incorporating the Aspect of Hungry Blood is crucial. This aspect grants a chance, up to 20% (30% on an Amulet or up to 40% on a Two-Handed Weapon), for Blood Lance to fire a second lance at a nearby target when hitting an already affected enemy. This greatly augments your damage potential, considering that all enemies previously affected by Blood Lance continue to suffer damage for each additional target struck.

Nature's Fury Druid Build (Level 50-70 Build)

Let's begin by examining Nature's Fury, which introduces a mechanic where casting an Earth Skill has a 20% chance of triggering a free Storm Skill from the same category. Similarly, casting a Storm Skill has a 20% chance of activating a free Earth Skill from the corresponding cluster. This synergy between Earth and Storm Magic encourages utilizing both types of skills in combat. To enhance the effectiveness of this Diablo 4 Build, there are a couple of powerful Legendary Aspects. The first one is the Symbiotic Aspect, which reduces the cooldowns of non-ultimate skills of the opposite type by up to 8 seconds when triggering the free skill. For example, if you cast Storm Strike after activating Earth Spike, all other Earth Skills will benefit from the reduced cooldown. This aspect works vice versa as well, allowing you to strategically lower the cooldowns of your Storm Skills.

In this Nature's Fury Druid Build, Storm Strike plays a crucial role in applying Vulnerable to enemies and reducing the cooldown of Earth Skills, particularly benefiting Earthen Bulwark and Trample. Earthen Bulwark grants you a substantial damage shield and renders you unstoppable, making you incredibly durable, especially in the later stages of the game. By consistently refreshing this ability, you will maintain a constant damage shield, shielding you from harm and granting freedom of movement without being susceptible to crowd control. With the Aspect of the Trampled Earth, Trample becomes a Nature Magic and Earth Skill, summoning six landslides to deliver potent area-of-effect damage to enemies. The strategy revolves around initiating combat with Earthen Bulwark for protection and subsequently using Trample amidst a group of enemies, causing landslides to strike them from behind. This combination maximizes the effectiveness of the landslides and allows you to assert dominance on the battlefield.

Permafrost Sorcerer Build (Level 50-70 Build)

The Permafrost Midgame Build is a Diablo 4 Sorcerer Build designed for area-of-effect AOE damage. Its primary focus is on applying Chill and Freeze effects while stacking powerful Damage Over Time effects, allowing you to swiftly annihilate enemies in your vicinity. The standout feature of this Permafrost Endgame Build in Diablo 4 is its remarkable crowd control and area-of-effect AOE damage. This is achieved by maximizing the utilization of freeze skills, enhancing them through gear and the Paragon System. With this build, you'll have access to two casts of Frozen Nova, frequent activation of Ice Armor, powerful dual casts of Frozen Orb, and an Ultimate ability that grants damage immunity, healing, and deals AOE damage to the entire screen with a cooldown of 60 seconds or less.

The primary gameplay rotation of this Sorceress Endgame Build in Diablo 4 revolves around casting Blizzard at the beginning of an encounter, followed by dropping Frozen Orb in the direction of enemies. It's important to position yourself strategically to gather enemies together and then cast Frost Nova, followed by continuous spamming of Frozen Orb. If there are Elite enemies present, you can still freeze them with your skills, reserving the use of Deep Freeze for situations where an extra boost is needed or when resources or health are running low. Furthermore, there are passive abilities that provide stacking bonuses, such as increased damage to Freezing or Chilled enemies. It's worth noting that Bosses can be "Staggered" by filling up a posture meter located below their health bar. Once staggered, they are considered under the effects of your Freeze, resulting in an additional +60% or more damage dealt to them. This presents an opportunity to dispatch Bosses quickly.

For Enchantments, the Permafrost Diablo 4 Sorceress Build incorporates Ice Shards, enabling automatic casting and targeting of Frozen enemies. To enhance AOE capabilities even further, Frozen Orb is chosen as the second Enchantment, granting a 20% chance for non-basic Skills to cast a Frozen Orb upon usage. Take Advantage of Legendary Aspects Legendary Aspects are special powers that can be imprinted onto weapons and gear, making them more powerful and/or more useful to you. These powers can be collected in two ways. The first time you complete each Dungeon that is associated with a Legendary Aspect, that Aspect will be added to your Codex of Power. When you loot a Legendary item, you can extract the Legendary Aspect, destroying the item, but keeping the Aspect for future use Legendary Aspects that drop for your Codex of Power can also be found on items that you loot, often at greater effectiveness. Manipulating Legendary Aspects. Extracting and Imprinting Aspects, requires the services of an Occultist. For more information about the Occultists and using their services.

Take Advantage of Legendary Aspects

Legendary Aspects are special powers that can be imprinted onto weapons and gear, making them more powerful and/or more useful to you. What is Codex of Power in Diablo 4?

Your Codex of Power is your collection of Legendary Aspects that have been collected by completing each dungeon for the first time. Collecting these Aspects is passive, predictable, and targetable. You don't have to do anything special to collect them, just run and complete the dungeon, and the Aspect is automatically added to your Codex and doesn't take up a bag space. There's no random factor, the Aspect which is granted for each dungeon is fixed, so if there is a particular one you want, you can just run that dungeon to get it. Codex Legendary Aspects are permanent; once one is in your collection you can reuse it as often as you like. Your Codex of Power is also account-wide, so all of your characters can access any that are collected.

Unfortunately, there are two major downsides to Codex of Power Legendary Aspects. The first is that not all Legendary Aspects are Codex of Power Aspects. There are only as many as there are dungeons to run for the first time. This means that if there is a particular Aspect that you want, and it is not a Codex Aspect, you won't necessarily have easy access to it. The second downside is that the individual affixes from a Legendary Aspect will always have the lowest possible rolls. That is to say, that if an affix on an Aspect is variable, for example, your Aspect could have a 10 to 20% chance to proc extra damage, the Codex version of the Aspect will always have the 10% chance. To achieve a higher value, you'd have to find an item that already has that Aspect and collect it using an Occultist to extract it. The Boneweave boots above are a good example. The Aspect would only grant 8% if imprinted from the Codex, but if extracted from the boots it would grant the full 15% when imprinted on another item.

Extracting Legendary Aspects in Diablo 4

If you happen to acquire a Legendary item in Diablo 4 that possesses an Aspect you wish to preserve for potential future use or transfer to another item you possess, the Occultist class offers the ability to extract the Aspect. However, this process involves the destruction of the original item. Once extracted, the Aspect transforms into a Legendary Aspect, which can be stored in a dedicated tab within your inventory. This ensures that Legendary Aspects do not occupy regular inventory space, although you are still constrained by the available slots in this tab.

It is important to note that there are drawbacks associated with extracted Aspects. Firstly, their acquisition is not entirely predictable, meaning that obtaining a specific Aspect may require some dedicated effort and a touch of good fortune. Secondly, unlike Codex of Power Aspects, which can be used repeatedly, extracted Legendary Aspects can only be utilized once.

Legendary Aspect Types in Diablo 4

Every Legendary Aspect in Diablo 4, regardless of whether it is extracted or stored in your Codex, falls into one of five distinct categories. These categories not only categorize the aspects based on their purpose but also dictate the types of gear on which they can be applied.

Aspect Types

  • Offensive: Equipment - Amulet, Weapon, Gloves, Ring
  • Defensive: Equipment - Shield, Helm, Chest, Pants, Amulet
  • Utility: Shield, Helm, Chest, Amulet, Gloves, Boots
  • Resource: Equipment - Ring
  • Mobility: Equipment - Amulet, Boots

It's worth noting that the selection of item slots for a Legendary Aspect can sometimes enhance the imbued Legendary Power on the item, such as with 2H Weapons or Amulets. In Diablo 4, most Legendary Aspects are tailored for a specific class and can only be utilized by that particular class. However, there are also several Generic Legendary Aspects available that can be used by any class.
