Depending on the type of equipment used, Chipped Diamond grants different bonuses. The Jeweler can unsocket your Gems from your gear without damaging them, so you can use them for different gear combinations. In addition to upgrading Armor and Weapons at The Blacksmith, you can also enhance the bonus Resistances and extra Stats of your Rings and Amulets with the Jeweler's help.
