Fortify is a Status Ailment in Diablo 4Fortify serves as a defensive tool, reducing incoming damage by strengthening a portion of your life pool. Status Ailments are conditions that can be applied to both Enemies and Players by using Skills, Talents, Weapon Modifiers, Runes, etc. Below, you can see a detailed description on what Fortify does and how to trigger it.

Diablo 4 Fortify Information

  • Fortified: Characters take 10% decreased damage. You become Fortified when you have more Fortify than current Life.
  • Fortify is a stat used by Barbarians, Druids, and Necromancers
  • You can keep track of your Fortify value by monitoring your life globe. The fortified portion of your life pool appears as an extra layer of red. This fortified life takes less damage from enemy attacks, with a default value of 10% less damage. You can increase the amount of damage reduction that Fortify grants with sources such as sapphire gems and armor.
  • It is important to note that your maximum Fortify value is equal to your maximum Life. While it is possible to have more Life than Fortify, you will only benefit from Fortify's damage reduction for the portion of the hit that would drop you below your Fortify value.
    • For example, if you have 1,000 life and 500 Fortify and get hit for 600 damage, you will end up with 410 life. The first 500 points of life will not be affected by Fortify's damage reduction, but the remaining 100 damage that would push you below 500 life would be reduced.
  • It is crucial to have a smooth and consistent source of Fortify if you intend to rely on it for damage mitigation, as Fortify value can decay rapidly if you drop out of combat. After five seconds out of combat, your Fortify value will rapidly deplete unless you gain more Fortify from a source, which will delay this decay by another five seconds.
