Thorns is an Offensive Stat in Diablo 4Thorns refers to the damage dealt to Enemies when players get hit. When a player is hit by an enemy, the enemy will take a percentage of that damage back as Thorns damage. Below you can find a comprehensive overview of Thorns's functionality and how to improve it.

How does Thorns work in Diablo 4?

Diablo IV Thorns is a passive offensive mechanism that inflicts damage to foes each time an enemy successfully hits your character. This exceptional feature returns a portion of the damage received to the enemy

It's important to understand that Thorns doesn't bestow any invulnerability against enemy assaults. Thus, despite having the Thorns effect, your character is not immune to enemy-inflicted damage.

When it comes to characters with a lower health or defense pool, Thorns might not be the most effective strategy due to its lack of damage reduction capabilities. While Thorns does permit you to retaliate with some damage, your character still sustains significant damage from enemy attacks. This is why Thorns becomes particularly effective when utilized by hardier classes in Diablo 4, such as the Barbarian or Druid. These Classes can truly harness the full potential of the Thorns effect.

Thorns damage is amplified based on your character's primary Stat:

I find the tooltips and information on this skill pretty vague.

What exactly does it trigger off? Obviously the physical attacks of enemies are a yes, but what about magic attacks like mortar, fireballs and lightning?

Also exactly how much damamge goes back? If I have 100 thorns is that 100 damage back? Or is is 100% of the damage dealt back? Really would like to know because I got some great thorns drops with my necromancer and it seems like it might be a lot of damage output from giving my minions lots of thorns but I cant really tell.

If its about necro it's imbalanced, physical dmg and close range dmg increases thorns dmg from your minions

Does anyone know if thorns damage counts as direct damage foe things like the Barbarians Strategic Rallying Cry or 2 handed sword expertise?

not sure if its different for necros but the ingame description says that thorns scale off of intelligence.

Am i understanding this correctly: Increased INT directly increases thorns damage? Do "+5%" damage stats/buffs also increase thorns? Or does that effect only affect weapon damage and spell damage?
