Diablo 4 How to Summon The Beast in the Ice

To summon The Beast in the Ice, players will need to craft the Glacial Fissure Nightmare Sigil with The Occultist. This is a Tier 31 Nightmare Sigil and can be crafted like any other Nightmare Sigil, except it requires 9 Distilled Fear to make. Naturally, the Glacial Fissure is a Nightmare Dungeon itself, and you'll come across some strong mobs like any other Nightmare Dungeon, so prepare accordingly. Distilled Fear can be acquired by completing other Nightmare Dungeons that are at least Tier 30 as well. When you have enough, you can craft the necessary Nightmare Sigil for the Glacial Fissure and simply activate it to get prompted to immediately teleport to the Dungeon. Consider bringing EquipmentSkills, or consumables that amp up your resistance to cold damage.

Diablo 4 The Beast in the Ice Strategy Writeup

The Beast in the Ice boasts a wide move pool compared to most Bosses, which means players might have to choose to get damaged by weaker hits in order to avoid the stronger ones. Damage mitigation, and even immunity, will go a long way in this fight. The fight will begin with the Beast using simpler moves. When he swings his weapon at you, time your dodges while sticking close to him to deal some damage. He'll shoot ice crystals along his swings though, which will break into multiple bouncing ice shards, so be mindful of them as you try to deal damage. When he starts to use his frost breath, simply dodge around it and get behind him to let loose your strongest attacks, again still being mindful of the bouncing ice shards. Eventually, he'll slam his weapon onto the ground which will cause multiple circular areas of damage around the battlefield, so you'll have to prioritize getting to safer spots. He'll also eventually start jumping and crashing into the ground. This is relatively easy to quickly dodge away from, but he'll then shoot out multiple ice crystals, which will also break into bouncing shards, right as he lands. It's possible, but very difficult to dodge all of these attacks, so an argument can definitely be made for simply using damage mitigation while staying in place to let the jumping slam hit you, allowing you to easily dodge the ice crystals that shoot outward from him, and then moving carefully to avoid the bouncing shards, all while keeping up your damage output.

When you get his health halfway past the first arrow, he'll conjure up an ice storm around the battlefield, limiting your space for movement. He'll be untargettable when he does this so all you'll have to do is focus on moving out of the way of rows of frost waves that will periodically appear. He'll also call in some reinforcements here which you can easily dispatch, but be mindful of the Lunatics who explode when killed. Getting hit by the frost waves will knock you into the ice storm which deals a huge amount of damage, so prioritize not getting hit by those.

Eventually, he'll the ice storm will dissipate and he'll become targettable again for the second phase of the fight. He'll make use of his earlier moves, but he will also start plunging his sword into the ground shooting out frostwaves. When you see him plunge his sword down, that's your cue to prioritize a bit of mobility. Small circles will start to become telegraphed, and the frostwaves will surge from those circles, going outwards. These ones have a high chance of freezing you if they hit. This will continue to happen while he retains this stance so keep moving.

When you get his health past the halfway point, he'll conjure up the ice storm again retaining the same mechanics as before, except he can summon Elites instead of just the Overseers. When he becomes targettable again, you'll notice that the ice storm limiting the space of the battlefield will stay, and so will the rows of frostwaves that will periodically try to hit you and freeze you. In this third phase, he'll make sure of his whole arsenal of attacks. When he plunges his sword into the ground to surge out frostwaves from circular centers, a second surge of five more waves will shoot out which will cover the rows around the center that were neglected from the initial surge, giving you more to dodge. When this happens, simply dodge the initial surge and then walk into one of the rows hit by the initial surge to dodge the next one. All in all, this fight will be about careful movement while being patient and dealing damage, or alternatively, choosing which attacks to let hit you in exchange for letting loose your own onslaught of damage.

Attacks & Counters

Attack Counter
Phase 1
Shatter Slice: The Beast will slash his large weapon at you for melee damage while also throwing ice crystals along with it. These ice crystals travel slowly in the direction that they're fired and then shatter into smaller ice shards that can bounce off of the ice formations and walls on the battlefield Dodge out of the way and keep moving, being mindful of the ice shards, or use damage mitigation for them
Shatter Breath: The Beast will blow a frosty breath in a direction for an extended period of time, releasing more ice crystals as he does, which also shatter into smaller ice shards that can bounce off of the ice formations and walls on the battlefield Move behind him, being mindful of the ice shards, or use damage mitigation for them
Tremor Smash: The Beast will let out a roar, which sends down a few ice missiles onto the battlefield, before slamming its weapon onto the ground. Ice tremors marked by circles around the battlefield will activate right after Move out of the way of the slam and dodge to a safe spot from the tremors
Shatter Crash: The Beast will jump high into the air and then crash into you, dealing damage in a wide circle, while also shooting out 8 ice crystals in all directions when he lands, which shatter into smaller ice shards that can bounce off of the ice formations and walls on the battlefield Dash quickly out of the crash and then keep moving, minding the ice shards, or use damage mitigation and let the crash hit you to easily avoid the crystals and shards
Phase 2
Ice Storm: The Beast will conjure an ice storm around the battlefield while summoning Carver Overseers and Carver Lunatics - the latter of which will explode after being killed. During the storm, he will periodically send waves of frost at you, marked by highlighted rows on the limited field. Getting hit by these waves will knock you into the storm which inflicts huge damage Kill the Enemies quickly and move out of the way of the explosions. Prioritize dodging the waves of frost to avoid as much damage as possible
Surging Frost: The Beast will plunge his weapon into the ground for an extended period of time. This causes five waves of frost to emerge from a small circular center. This will happen multiple times throughout the battlefield. Getting hit by these has a high chance of rendering you Frozen Mind the marked lanes and dodge out of the way
Phase 3
Perpetual Ice Storm: The Beast will conjure an ice storm around the battlefield again, with the same mechanics as before, but this time he'll call upon Elites to help him. Additionally, the ice storm will stay until the end of the fight even when he becomes targettable again. The rows of frost waves will periodically emerge throughout the final phase.  Kill the Enemies quickly and move out of the way of the explosions. Prioritize dodging the waves of frost to avoid as much damage as possible
Surging Frost 2: The Beast will plunge his weapon into the ground for an extended period of time. This causes five waves of frost to emerge from a small circular center. Five more waves will then surge from the same center, covering the lanes it didn't cover on the first surge. This will happen multiple times throughout the battlefield. Getting hit by these has a high chance of rendering you Frozen Mind the marked lanes, dodge out of the way, and then move into the lanes that previously had the frost waves to dodge the second surge
